Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about NDIS supports and how we can help.

Why choose Access Support Services?

Access Support Services is a trusted local not-for-profit disability provider (registered) with nearly 40 years in the region. As a registered charity / philanthropic organisation, any profits are reinvested back into our disability support services, which are designed to enrich the lives of people with a disability.

Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded service that enables people with disabilities to live as independently as possible, either in shared or individual housing. Tailored support is provided according to each person's specific needs.

SIL offers scheduled support with daily living activities such as personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, medication management, and social and community participation.

SIL costs vary depending on the level of care and support you need. This is funded by the NDIS as a separate item within your NDIS plan.

Social & Community Participation

Social and community participation refers to activities that help individuals engage with their community, build relationships, and take part in social, recreational and community events. This can include joining clubs, attending events, volunteering and more.

Engaging in social and community activities can improve quality of life, enhance mental and physical wellbeing, increase independence, and foster a sense of belonging and inclusion.

The NDIS provides funding through two main categories: Core Supports and Capacity Building Supports. This funding can be used to hire support workers, attend community events, join classes and more.

These supports are designed for individuals with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum, with intellectual disabilities, or with psychosocial disabilities. The goal is to help them achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life.

You can find providers through the NDIS website, local community centres, or by asking for recommendations from your NDIS planner. Access Support Services is a registered provider — get in touch and we'll be glad to help.

Activities can range from sports and recreation to arts and crafts, volunteering and attending social groups. The focus is on activities that promote engagement and interaction within the community.
